EECS 485 - Web Information Systems

Design and use of databases in the Web context; data models, database design, replication issues, client/server systems, information retrieval, web server design; substantial project involving the development of a database-backed web site.

1. Basics of building a web site.
2. Information retrieval basics.
3. Search engines, information extraction, wrappers.
4. XML language.
5. Web logs, cookies, personalization, communities.
6. Data warehousing and data mining.
7. E-commerce, database marketing, customer relationship mgt.
8. Mirroring, replication, caching, proxy.
9. Distributed databases.
