Special Topics in Bioinformatics

Instructors: Bergman, He

T, Th 1-2:30

1 credit

This class will provide students with an overview of bacterial genomes, as well as an introduction to genome-wide approaches to fundamental problems in bacterial physiology and pathogenesis. Specific areas and topics that will be discussed include large-scale sequencing projects, bacterial genome structure and evolution, genomic variation and other problems in comparative genomics, and genome-scale analysis of gene/protein expression. Additionally, since advances in genomics are often driven by technology, the course will familiarize students with current methods being used in the field (e.g., computational approaches to comparative sequence analysis, DNA microarrays, proteomic techniques, etc.). The course will be primarily literature-based, with lectures as necessary to give students an introduction to a particular topic.
